Richard began his apprenticeship in Pasadena, Texas, where he was introduced to the profession under the structure and standards of a large, high-volume firm. From there his path took him through both family-owned and corporate funeral homes across Texas, North Carolina, and Virginia — each with its own community, its own expectations, and its own lessons.
When Richard and Shannon moved to southwestern Virginia, Richard pursued and obtained his licenses in Kentucky and Tennessee as well, driven by a desire to better serve the funeral professionals of the region. That commitment to service is what led to the founding of JMS.
